Hey! I resemble that remark! Despite the fact I am a bastard (by dictionary definition) I’m actually a nice guy. I expect the people who used to work with me (especially those who worked *for* me) would beg to differ, however.
Lucien is a prime example of being wrong although technically right. Good for Jill! If she really hated him, though, she would have decked him — a slap is really a sign of attraction. (You’re off the hook, Jim) I mean, how many old movies had a scene where a slap turned ito a passionate embrace? Lots!
don’t forget she still sees herself as a noble, and nobles always represent their house regardless of circumstance. Also I seem to remember an earlier page mention a loss of one’s noble status if they were found to be an elemental, I suppose we’ll get the reason for that when the explanation finally comes. I’m really anxious for the explanation, but I know that it probably will have its own arc by way responses have gone, that won’t be for a while since the first 3 or 4 chapter usually meant for character introductions and establishing moments that define a character’s personality and relationships with the rest of the main and/or minor cast.

But Bill! A punch is completely uncouth for a lady to perform! Everyone knows an open-handed slap is far more sociably acceptable!
You shouldn’t expect a calm and composed response from a woman after “dumping” them as Lucien did.
